Success Stories: Sunny
Sunny came to visit Dr. Ray this spring after she vomited up a large volume of fluid and had some diarrhea. During her exam, it was noticed that her gums were almost white, while they should be nice and pink, much like human gums. Her light colored gums concerned Dr. Ray, so he ordered her to have her blood tested immediately. The bloodwork came back and the news was not good for Sunny. Sunny had developed a condition called anemia. Anemia is a condition where there are lower than normal amounts of red blood cells in the body. This condition is very serious, and can result in shortness of breath, fainting, and even death. Sunny’s anemia was so advanced, she only had days left before her condition was irreversible. The next morning, Sunny’s owners brought her in for a blood transfusion. A blood transfusion is where you take blood from a healthy cat, and give it to a sick pet that needs it. Sunny did very well throughout the procedure and went home that night. She returned every 2 weeks for months to have her blood checked to make sure she wasn’t becoming anemic again. Her owners had to learn how to trick this very smart kitty into taking her medication every single day. Sunny also required a lot of love and cuddles on her journey to recovery. After months of visits to Dr. Ray to have her blood reassessed, Sunny has made a full recovery, and is back to her normal, spicy, self. Way to go Sunny! We are so proud of you and your owners’ patience and persistence during such a trying time!
